Date[1303]
DescriptionOf a bull of Pope Boniface VIII, dated 19 Mar 1303, at the Lateran. The pope has confirmed to St Augustine's Abbey its liberties and previous papal exemptions from ordinary jurisdiction. He appointed the abbots of Westminster, Waltham and Bury St Edmunds Abbeys as conservators of this exemption. Archbishop Robert Winchelsey has complained that this exemption is being applied to churches in the abbey's patronage as well as churches appropriated to the abbey. He also complained about disruption to the solemn processions usually made by the clergy and people of the churches to the cathedral, and to bell-ringing in the archbishop's honour. A dispute developed, and an appeal has been brought before the pope, who defines the abbey's rights on the issues. No date. [Date: date of original.]
With notarial mark of Hugh Hugonis de Musele, clerk, of Lincoln diocese, notary public, who wrote the document.
