Description | Account of presentation of appeal by Richard de Clive, monk of Canterbury Cathedral Priory, to St Augustine's Abbey on 18 Jul 1300. He is proctor for the priory according to a letter of 12 Jul 1300, cited. Transcription of appeal as read out at the abbey before 'Magistri' John Hanekyn of Canterbury, Robert de Dagepette, William perpetual vicar of St Paul's Canterbury, John de Wodenesberghe, John de Roydon' and Dunstan of Canterbury, clerks, who had been specially summoned. Appeal concerns complaints by the priory and Archbishop Winchelsey about exemptions claimed by the abbey under a privilege from Pope Boniface VIII, who appointed the abbots of Westminster, Waltham and Bury St Edmunds Abbeys as conservators of the exemption. After reading the appeal out, Richard gave it to Adam de Riddenne, the abbey's proctor. With notarial mark of John de Sancto Martino of Lewes, notary public, who wrote the document.
