General address. Notification that the dispute between Archbishop Theobald and Silvester, abbot of St Augustine's, Canterbury, is over. This followed a mandate from Pope Adrian IV which ordered the abbot to make his profession to Theobald within 30 days. Silvester made his profession, recited, and signed it with a cross after it had been proved that his predecessors as abbot had done so. Hugh [of Trottiscliffe] had made his profession to Archbishop William [of Corbeil], according to religious men under oath. Also, the writers inspected a schedule containing many professions of previous abbots of the abbey. No date. [Date: an endorsement on the profession itself, and Gervase i, p165, both state that the profession was made on 17 Jul 1157.]
