On 12 Nov 1297 they received a mandate from the pope, recited, addressed to them together with John Derewyne, canon of Exeter, dated 15 Mar 1297, at Rome. This appointed them judges delegate in a case concerning a dispute between the cathedral priory and the archdeacon of Canterbury over sede vacante jurisdiction. The pope gives a detailed account of progress of case, and instructions on how to proceed. The judges report on their progress and problems encountered. They are sending 12 instruments relating to the case to Rome. They have arranged for the proctors of the parties to appear at the Roman court on 30 Sep 1298. Given at St Paul's Cathedral, London.
