Description | On 22 Oct 1333 Laurence Fastolf, canon of St Paul's Cathedral, once treasurer to Archbishop Simon [Meopham] appeared at Mayfield, Sussex, before the notary and Richard de Middeltone and John de Aumberle, notaries public, and Ranulfus Moigne, clerk He read out the resignation of his chantry by John de Wymundham, chaplain of St Mary's Chantry in St Andrew's Tarring, in the archbishop's immediate jurisdiction. Recited. Also recites letter from John de Monte Gomery, knight, of Goring, patron of the chantry, presenting to the archbishop William de Craneford, chaplain, to succeed John. Dated 17 Aug 1333, at 'la Felde'. Also recites letter to archbishop from John, vicar of Tarring, dated 26 Aug, at Tarring. Sealed by the dean of Storrington ('Storketon'') on 27 Aug at 'Vetus Pons'. John reports on his investigation into the vacancy, as instructed by the archbishop's letter, recited dated 21 Aug, at Mayfield. With notarial sign of Simon de Cherryng, clerk, of Canterbury diocese, notary public, who wrote the document. [Meopham died on 12 Oct 1333.]
