Description | Of presentation by John de Schamelford' and W, priory monks, of letter, recited, from Pope Gregory X to Robert Kilwardby, archbishop-elect of Canterbury. Letter dated 1 Nov 1272, at Orvieto. Concerns Robert's election as archbishop and compensation to be paid to Prior Adam de Chillendenne, who had withdrawn as archbishop-elect. The letter was transcribed before Walter Lasseburn' and William Contarell', the monks' servants. The monks delivered the letter to Robert at Stratford Abbey [Essex] before the same witnesses and Mgri Constantine [de Mildenhall], archdeacon of Sudbury, Hugh de Colibrig', Robert's official, Bartholomew de F'entino and Philip Sabaldei. With notarial sign of John de Sancto Demetrio, imperial notary public, who wrote the document.
