DescriptionOf presentation by John de Schamelford' and W, priory monks, of letter, recited, from Pope Gregory X to Robert Kilwardby, archbishop-elect of Canterbury.
Letter dated 1 Nov 1272, at Orvieto. Concerns Robert's election as archbishop and compensation to be paid to Prior Adam de Chillendenne, who had withdrawn as archbishop-elect. The letter was transcribed before Walter Lasseburn' and William Contarell', the monks' servants. The monks delivered the letter to Robert at Stratford Abbey [Essex] before the same witnesses and Mgri Constantine [de Mildenhall], archdeacon of Sudbury, Hugh de Colibrig', Robert's official, Bartholomew de F'entino and Philip Sabaldei.
With notarial sign of John de Sancto Demetrio, imperial notary public, who wrote the document.

Endorsed with description in early 14th cent hand.
