Description | From: Seward de standune To: Canterbury Cathedral Priory
The marsh ('le mareis') of 'Aessce'. With the consent of Swanhilda ('Swanehild'), his wife, his sons and other kinsmen of the marsh. For the reception of his son, Alfred ('Aeluredus'), as a monk. Seward will hold the marsh from the cathedral priory for his life for an annual payment to the sacrist ('secretario', in dat.) of 10s. After his death this agreement may pass to his sons. If the payment is not made, the priory may take seisin of the land, paying 12d annually to Seward's heirs. No date. [Date: handwriting. This is presumably the same marsh as in DCc-ChAnt/A/183.]
