Ordinances made before John de lovetot and Henry de Apuldrefeld junior, royal justices for overseeing walls etc in areas by the sea and the Thames in Kent, on 25 Aug 1288. The marshes of Brookland, Fairfield, 'Overland', Snargate and Agney, and other marshes between Snargate and Romney and the watercourse flowing from Winchelsea to Appledore, are now flooded. Lists 24 representatives of the communality of the marsh who were present. Concerns contributions towards the maintenance and repair of sea defences and drainage. Defines the boundaries of the marshes. Ordains that the communality elect 12 men, 8 from the priory liberty and 4 from the Barony, for measuring the walls and land, and for calculating contributions. The communality should also elect 2 bailiffs, one each from the priory liberty and Barony.
