James is auditor of contradictory letters. In the case between Giles de Adria, clerk, proctor for Richard de Aulanby, rector of Adisham, and Philip de Pomonte, clerk, proctor for the priory. Case concerns the jurisdiction of Robert de Selescia, priory monk, official of Canterbury sede vacante, and the sede vacante jurisdiction of the archdeacon of Canterbury. As judges, Giles has chosen the bishop of Norwich [William Middleton], and Philip the archbishop [John Pecham], with the archdeacon of London [Geoffrey de Mortimer] chosen by assent as the third judge. The parties have agreed for the judges to meet in London.
Recites mandate from Pope Nicholas III to the judges, dated 13 Feb 1279, at St Peter's.
