Description | The bailiff, or steward, of the prior's liberty accounted for the financial benefits of the legal privileges the prior had been granted. His receipts came from views of frankpledge, forfeited goods of felons, and amercements before royal justices, and his expenses included his own wages (40s pa), those of a gaoler (10s pa), and those of clerks making extracts from court rolls. There is considerable variation in the detail of the accounts. |
