| Description | Lydden lay where now is Sandwich golf course, on the east coast of Kent. A fairly complete series of accounts, drawn up by the serjeant, runs from 1276 to 1364, detailing his receipts and expenses, with his corn and stock accounts on the dorse. These even include the occasional draft and view; there is also apparently a farmer accounting briefly in 1360. A farmer is more permanently installed by 1390, though there is a reversion to the much fuller account of a serjeant in 1421. |
