DescriptionLalling manor lies on the flat hinterland of eastern Essex. Its accounting official was almost continuously titled 'reeve' from the first appearance of his accounts in 1277 until the manor was let to farm by 1403. His accounts detail expenses and receipts on the recto, with accounts for corn, stock, and customary works on the dorse. By 1403, a farmer is accounting very much more briefly.
