| Description | Box 38 is missing its original box, so any information that may have been on the outside of it has been lost, although it may well have been similar to that on box 37, as the contents all relate to the precincts of Canterbury cathedral. There are two groups of correspondence with the Ecclesiastical Commissioners which relate to the Dean and Chapter's policy of purchasing any property close to the cathedral so that they could have some means of controlling the precincts area. BB 38/151 is a report on the condition of the cathedral and precincts, prepared for the Ecclesiastical Commission by Ewan Christian who supervised the resulting repairs to the cathedral with Henry George Austin, the Dean and Chapter's surveyor. The remaining material consists of individual letters and one lease, granted in 1862 for the Canterbury district probate registry. |
