DescriptionExemplification, enrolled at the request of Robert Hovenden DD, of various grants by the Crown in connection with the site etc of Blackfriars, Canterbury.
Embodies, amongst others, a charter of Henry III (10 March 1237), mentioning an island between the land of Richard de Mepham and Eleanor daughter of Ioldin on the east and the land of William de Bury on the west. Embodies the sale by the Crown (temp Eliz I) of the site etc of Blackfriars, Canterbury, with other properties, including the rectory of Islington, Norf, ground etc late parcel of Blackborough priory, Linton, Dev and Wiggenhall St Mary, Norf etc
Mention of Blackfriars churchyard with grounds, buildings etc late in the occupation of Thomas Bathurste, with other grounds etc in the occupation of John Thompson, Richard Brucharde, Thomas Laurence, chamber and house late in the occupation of Richard Meade, and the solar in the dormitory of the priory, late in the occupation of Robert Collyns. This exemplification was probably secured in connection with the dispute between Hovenden and Canterbury City over the right of way through 'The Friars'.
