Description | Owner: Temple, William. This belonged to Temple, probably when he was an undergraduate at Balliol College, Oxford. The Old Palace was substantially rebuilt by Frederick Temple, his father, in 1897-8 as a residence for the archbishops of Canterbury. Some of the early photographs may have been taken at this time or very soon after. The later photographs show the Palace soon after it was restored. The titles were written by William Temple, who is in one of the garden photographs, wearing a Panama hat (22). |
