Description | Part of a manuscript written in about 1850 identifying the 6 kings on the cathedral choir screen erected by Prior Chillenden 1391-1411 as Henry V, Richard II, Ethelbert, William I, Henry IV and Henry VI. On the inside cover is pasted an article sent to The Times by Dr Charles Cotton and published 17.1.1935 about the finding of this manuscript and correcting the author's statement concerning the fourth figure which he says is Edward the Confessor. A fuller article by Dr Cotton is printed in the Friends Chronicle no 20, April 1935, pp12-20. It is illustrated with full length photographs. He supports his statement that the fourth one is Edward the Confessor with a quotation fron John Stone's Chronicle relating to purchases of images of Ethelbert and Edward. |
