Mr Clark, then an RAF officer, on embarkation leave, was at the home of his parents on the corner of Vernon Place and Dover Street, Canterbury. His father had a clockmaker's business there. Mr Clark, the son, had with him his wife and infant daughter. Since the parish of St George where their shop stood was largely obliterated, the raid was witnessed at very close quarters.
